Abi's Weekend Project

Our yard work has always been kept to a minimum around here. Neither of us actually enjoys doing it, which is why the landscaping has always been last on our to-do list. Well, since we are planning on staying around here for a while, the overgrown and weedy "gardens" were starting to annoy me. So, while Jeff painted his car, the boys "helped" me weed and clear the gardens... Yesterday, I was able to install the edging material so that it is ready for Jeff to mow easily. I have yet to do the front of the house, before we go get mulch for the gardens. This year I am only clearing the areas (weeding and removing unwanted plants). Next year we will be focusing on actually planting things where we want them. Every one knows I'm pretty squirmy around bugs, and this was NOT an easy task for me. Especially since I came across a bunch of beetles, grubs, worms, spiders, two salamanders (or something slimy that resembles them), and four dead baby birds... I really don't know how I was able to get this much done. Maybe the front yard will have less bugs for me to worry about? Anyway, this is what the house looks like right now:
