We havent made any progress with the remodeling inside the house... However, we got a lot done outside the house. On Friday, we went to get a bunch of stone from a local gravel company. We loaded my car with all the stone we thought we could use, and slowly made our way back home. We parked my car in the back of the house, where we'd be suing the stone.
Jeff dug up the window well in the back of the house, underneath the dining area. He then added about 8 inches of stone. While he was doing this, I was removing some of the hostas plants from our rear garden, so that Jeff would be able to access the window well under the kitchen.
When Jeff dug up the dirt (and stone) from the kitchen window well, we thought it'd be a good idea to go buy a new metal window well, so we could get rid of the plastic one. We went to a lot of stores before finding metal window wells. It turns out that only Home Depot carried the ones we were looking for. We bought 2 wells, because we decided that it'd be best to install one on the side of the house as well.
When we got home, Jeff removed the plastic well and installed the metal one. He added the stone, and moved the dirt around the garden so that it was at the grade he wanted, for the water to flow away from the house. While he was doing this, I was removing the plants from the side of the house, so that Jeff could get to the 3rd window.
While Jeff was working on the 2nd and 3rd window wells, I raked all the leaves... My hands still hurt, but at least the yard looks nice. We also trimmed the pine tree on the front corner of the house (it was looking pretty shaggy). I then watered the garden (and pumpkins and rose bushes) while Jeff took all the leaf (and plant) piles to the compost area at the top of our hill. We decided we should go buy the window well covers so that once winter comes, we dont have to worry abotu the snow accumulating inside the wells, and leaking into the basement. As soon as we got ready to go out to the store, it started raining, and it really never stopped until early this morning.
Jeff installed the well covers this morning while I went grocery shopping. They look pretty good... Check it out:
Girl, that's impressive! You guys do some good work. Wherever did you learn to do stuff like that?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ae-Jin. I'm not sure where we picked it up... Maybe it's the engineer in us ;)
